Sailing

Blue Bubun went out on a voyage on the Viking longship.

Preparing the ship before the voyage

Rowing out down the creek (a tidal "creek" on the lower Potomac)

Looking down the creek toward St. Clements Island (Blackistone Island) and the far Virginia shore. St. Clements Island is the site of the first landing of the European colonists of Maryland.

4th of July

Blue Bubun went to re-enactor craft camp for the 4th of July weekend.

He helped to set up the indigo vat, but was careful not to fall in.

This shibori bound linen is oxidizing between dips.

All finished and drying on the line!

After a long day of dyeing, it was time for crabs! Blue Bubun got to learn how to use a crab mallet.

Just some bits of shell left over - these were tossed back into the creek to feed more crabs.

The next day he helped pit some sour cherries for pie. Yum!
